The first thing you need to know is that the functionality of the FNProgramvare-developed application BookCAT caters to the needs of a specific group of users: those users who have a nice collection of books and organizations that need to manage their collection of books. BookCAT is in fact a database program that helps catalog your book collection.

Very little time will be spent on downloading and installing BookCAT. The download is of 11.5MB, which means that, on a high-speed internet connection, it will not take long to complete. A handy setup wizard will then make it easy to install BookCAT on a Windows-powered computer. Support for XP, Vista and Windows 7 is provided.

Little time will be spent on figuring out how BookCAT works too, and that’s because the application comes with an easy to use interface that I found to be quite good looking. To make it even easier to use BookCAT, the application comes with a brief “Getting Started” guide and a built-in sample database. Open the sample database and you will see a list of authors and a list of works they published.

The nice thing about BookCAT is that it comes with a wealth of features to help you manage a growing library. Start your own database and you will be able to add personal comments, store book covers, create reports, keep track of the books you loaned, use more than 30 custom data fields, and more. Another nice thing about it is that it can download book data from the web, thus saving you time. With the help of BookCAT, you have an overview of your book collection, can easily remind yourself what a book is all about and you know when a book is not on the shelf because you loaned it to someone.

On the downside, BookCAT is only free to try. You have 30 days at your disposal to see if BookCAT meets your needs. Once that trial period is over, you will have to get a license to keep using BookCAT.

BookCAT is a must have for any book lover with a growing library.
